NWML maintains world-class laser-based length calibration benches which are housed in purpose-built laboratories. The facilities are based on Hewlett-Packard helium-neon laser interferometers and custom-built track and carriage systems. This service has full UKAS accreditation for the calibration of line standards and measures up to 50 metres and above in 50 m multiples from the lowest to the highest quality.
Range of value tested | Best measurement Capability | Accredited |
Rigid line measures 0 – 2.3 metres | (1 + 1L) µm where L is in metres | UKAS |
Flexible line measures 2 - 50 metres | (10 +0.6L) µm where L is in metres | UKAS |
Rigid line standards can be calibrated by direct comparison with the laser wavelength. The mounting for the standard is of a design to allow for all the commonly met cross-sections (H, flat & bevelled).
Flexible line standards can be calibrated either by comparison with NWML standard tapes or by direct comparison with a laser.
